With tech, traffic offenders can’t escape sanctions – LASTMA

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency has warned motorists in the state against various traffic offences.

The agency said its Traffic Management Solution handheld devices had been rolled out to provide video and photograph evidence against traffic offenders in the state.

The TMS handheld camera, which was introduced by the agency in July 2021, was aimed at ensuring that residents comply with state traffic laws.

A recent viral video, which was reportedly captured by a TMS camera, showed a car dropping off a passenger on the Third Mainland Bridge.

In a video on Monday, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo, who stressed that the TMS handheld device would provide video and photograph evidence of traffic offenders, advised Lagosians to desist from breaking traffic laws.

“It is in view of this I want to advise every motoring public to avoid picking, dropping passengers, friends by roadsides or buying goods.

“Do not park your vehicle on walkways, road setbacks or causing obstructions to other road users,” Adebayo said.

He warned motorists against plying Bus Rapid Transit corridors across the state.

He added, “Do not disobey traffic lights or traffic managers.

“Avoid driving against traffic one-way. Equally avoid illegal U-turn, and do not stay on the yellow lane.”

The LASTMA spokesman said the TMS handheld device would enhance safety and voluntary compliance to traffic laws in the state.

“This TMS handheld camera is basically to enhance safety, voluntary compliance and bring orderliness on our roads across the state,” he said.
